Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation (Shakti) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Solar Alliance (ISA) wherein Shakti will offer its expertise to collaborate around opportunities in solar, energy storage and electric mobility.
The MoU was signed on 31st August 2021 at the Fifth Standing Committee meeting of the ISA. The meeting was chaired by His Excellency, Shri R K Singh, Minister for Power, New and Renewable Energy, India, co-chaired by France and attended by ISA Member Country delegates from Mauritius, Niger, Nauru, Fiji, UK, Netherlands, Guyana, Cuba and other countries.
Under the agreement, Shakti and ISA will collaborate to advance national and global policy frameworks for accelerated solar deployment, facilitate technical and financial feasibility studies and support the “One Sun, One World, One Grid” concept of the ISA.
As the first initiative under this MoU, Shakti is working with the ISA to foster private sector engagement to boost solar energy in India.
“Providing clean, affordable and reliable energy is a core building block of inclusive development,” says Dr. Anshu Bharadwaj CEO, Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation.
He adds that “An energy system underpinned by renewables is key to decarbonizing the global economy in line with climate goals as well as delivering improved air quality and human health. Under this MoU, ISA and Shakti will seek to make the clean energy transition a reality as countries take steps to rebuild their economies after the pandemic.”
The International Solar Alliance was officially announced during the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris in 2015 as a partnership of solar resource-rich countries. ISA works with governments to promote solar power as a sustainable pathway to transition to a carbon-neutral future. Its mission is to unlock US$ 1 trillion of investment in solar by 2030 while reducing the cost of the technology and its financing. The ISA is currently being led by His Excellency, Director General Dr Ajay Mathur, and 121 countries have agreed to be ISA members.
Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation is committed to advancing clean energy and climate action in India. Shakti works with decision makers, civil society, think thanks and the private sector to identify and scale energy system interventions that will reduce GHG emissions to align with a 1.5°C future and tackle the climate crisis.
