The adverse impacts of climate change are disproportionally harsh for the poorest and most vulnerable people and groups, particularly women. Recognizing the unavoidable impact of climate change, international climate efforts have been steadily shifting to include a focus on adaptation. In India, gender mainstreaming in adaptation is gradually gaining momentum in order to promote the success of climate action. Women bring unique capabilities and participation to the adaptation effort, and adaptation responses can be more effective if both women’s and men’s capabilities and strengths are taken into account.
